Common questions

Which package should I choose?

Choose by goal: Athlete for performance, Weight Loss to track fat and muscle while losing weight, Women's Health for bone strength and body composition, and Elite to compare two full rounds of testing. Not sure? Call 858-838-3900 and we'll help you choose.

Do I need a referral?

Only for the lower Women's Health Package price ($325), which requires a referral from your doctor. Without a referral, choose the $475 option, which includes a physician consult and written report. No other package needs a referral.

How far apart should my repeat scans be?

For DEXA, every 3 to 6 months works well if you are tracking fat loss or muscle gain. Your clinician can suggest the best timing for your goal.

How do I prepare for my tests?

Each test has its own preparation. Please read the instructions on the DEXA, bone density, VO₂ max and RMR pages before your visit. RMR requires fasting; DEXA does not.

Is DEXA safe?

Yes. DEXA uses a very low dose of X-ray, less than a normal chest X-ray. Please don't book if you are or might be pregnant.

Are the tests physician-supervised?

Yes. Testing is supervised by our physicians, and we go through your results with you.
